We were invited to explore the green energy research of a private client in a living, experiential art piece for private viewing. A visual poetry about the relationships between humans, energy, and the world around us.
The film was to be optimistic and meditative while educational about the various layers at which the client operates.
Finding Humanity in Abstraction
We needed to showcase layers of human interaction with energy from planetary all the way down to a very personal scale.
There was a feeling from client that it would be special to somehow mix the flow of various types of energy with a kind of interconnectedness that speaks both to energy grids and responsibility of all humans for the stewardship of our planet.
We dove into this deeply, riffing off of ideas of networks; connectedness; and the natural ebb and flow of elements like electricity, wind, and the tides.
We found some beautiful ideas along the way, but were lacking a certain empathy or poetry in our findings.
It became clear that to provoke the evocative response we were looking for, some sense of the human hand needed to become present.
So we pivoted quite dramatically to establish a feeling of painterly flow within our descriptions of energy. We studied traditional mediums and tried to build warmth.
Resonance
Our results—culminating in the film, Resonance—were of a rich, visual quality.
Using ambulating volumetrics along with various particle systems that emulate spray paints and microbiotic movements, the film suggests a connection between energies and harmonious alignment with the human condition.
Highly evocative and yet beautiful and peaceful, these images create a quality of collective memory by filtering known objects through a mesmer lens of shifting form and light.
We followed the trail of energy from global scale to smallest particles in this expression of transferrence and human interaction.
Scenes drift and flow from one layer to the next seamlessly, creating a stream of consciousness kind of understanding of topics and ideas.
A universal connectedness between humans and their environments whether natural or artificial.
Resonance is a collection of ideas representing their most simple truths.
It’s a meditative alchemy—one that establishes a complex beauty in the mundane and cherishes the sublime nature of the world we change with our every, collective decision.
